Rebuilding Sandy Hook: How the security design team worked with the community, municipal leaders, and public safety officials to build the new Sandy Hook school

This is a topic that affects everyone. We all have children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or children of close friends who are in schools every day. Phil Santore will share the process of developing the security program and associated architectural and engineering approach to the design of the new Sandy Hook School. His team was expected to deliver a new school that was considered safe while maintaining the school’s primary mission of education. Phil’s DVS design team worked closely with the architects, engineers, parents, and the Town to develop a security program that met multiple expectations. Mr. Santore has over 39 years in the security industry, a wide-ranging tenure that has included engagements in elec- tronic security systems integration and installation, systems design, and high-level consulting and threat assessment. During his time as Managing Principal of DVS, Mr. Santore has worked on a number of landmark security consulting projects in addition to the Sandy Hook School, including the World Trade Center, the New York Stock Exchange, and Time Warner. His reputation as an out-of-the-box thinker has led to a number of truly unique security solutions - many of which have been covered by security industry publications and through speaking engagements.
Mr. Santore has been involved in the architectural, physical, and technical designs of schools across the United States, and is currently working with several Cites, and Towns regarding the development and implementation of new district-wide security programs in an effort to create safer educational facilities.
